Muktananda Dhyana Saptah: A Siddha Meditation Event

The Muktananda Dhyana Saptah is a one-day event designed for Siddha Yoga students who have established a regular meditation practice and can meditate for extended periods of time. It is a rare opportunity to spend a day in silence, focused fully on the practice of meditation.

The day includes a succession of extended meditations, reflecting on teachings from Gurumayi Chidvilasananda and Baba Muktananda, chanting the Siddha Yoga mantra, and the practice of silence.

 

Prerequisites

  • Minimum of 3 months of regular Siddha Yoga meditation practice
  • 1 Siddha Yoga Shaktipat Intensive
  • Ability to meditate for extended periods (1 hour sessions)

Orientation Session

An orientation session will be held at 7.45am and is an essential part of the event.

 

Preparation Exercises

Here are some beneficial exercises to practise in the days leading up to the Muktananda Dhyana Saptah:

  • Meditate daily for at least 30 minutes.
  • Practise hatha yoga or do other exercises that support physical strength and flexibility so that you can sit comfortably for extended periods.
  • Read the following chapters in Baba Muktananda's book Play of Consciousness:
    • “The Necessity of Meditation for Happiness in the World”
      • Chapter 1, (3rd and 4th edition
    • “Natural Samadhi”
      • Chapter 41 (3rd edition)
      • Book two, Chapter 7 (4th edition 1994)

 

Practical Information

Location

The Siddha Yoga Meditation Centre in London meets at The Amadeus Centre, Little Venice, 50 Shirland Road, London, W9 2JA.

Transport

The nearest tube station is Warwick Avenue, on the Bakerloo Line. You are strongly advised to check for any engineering works that may affect your journey. There is free on-street parking near the centre on Sundays.

Event Schedule (Updated)

The Amadeus Centre will open on Sunday 22nd August at 7:30am. An orientation to the event will be held from 8:10am to 8:30am. The Muktananda Dhyana Saptah will begin at 8:50am and end at 5:30pm. All participants are required to attend the entire event including the orientation.

What to Bring

  • Meditation asana
  • Cushions - to support your posture during the day, whether sitting on a chair or on the floor

Dress
To support the sacred atmosphere of the event, please dress modestly.

General dress guidelines:

  • Clothes should be clean, ironed, and in good repair.
  • Jeans, tank tops, t-shirts, sleeveless tops, short tops that expose the stomach, exercise slacks, revealing or sheer clothing, and shorts are not permitted.
  • Skirts should be knee-length or longer. No tight or short skirts.

During the Event
There will be plenty of pauses and time for reflection.

  • Observe silence
    Please make the necessary arrangements with your home and work, so that you can observe silence for the duration of the Muktananda Dhyana Saptah.
  • Eat and drink moderately
    This will support your meditation practice.
  • Be early for all sessions
    It is best to be in the Hall at least 5 minutes before each session is scheduled to begin. Each session will start promptly.

Meals & Amrit

  • Lunch and refreshments, including a light breakfast on arrival, will be provided if booked at the time of registration. You are welcome to bring your own packed lunch, but please note that only vegetarian food is allowed on centre premises.

Siddha Yoga Centre Policy

  • Alcohol, drugs, and smoking
    Possession or use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs is prohibited on centre premises. Prescription drugs should only be taken if the prescription has been legally obtained and is in your name. It is prohibited to be under the influence of intoxicating substances on the centre premises.
  • Print Media and laptops
    To support the centre environment, please do not bring newspapers, magazines, novels, or laptops into the centre.
  • Recording
    Photography, video recording, and audio recording are prohibited on centre premises. This includes taking pictures or footage using a mobile phone camera.
